Head coach Joby has been climbing since 1989, when he tried it for the first time at a Boy Scout Camp. Joby shared, "it was that moment when I first realized that climbing was something that I loved to do, because when I was on the wall, everything else disappeared ... I found my spot in life. I was no longer a bad student or a loner... it gave me peace." Joby has been coaching since 2001 and finds it personally rewarding to "take a child that is unsure of their strength and their ability and harness their natural talent - teach technique and help that child be something they never thought they could be."
Joby describes himself as goofy. "That's part of what helps me relate to kids - they are so fun! They like that I'm goofy. I love to joke, play and have fun." In his free time, Joby loves to create new foods. Experiencing new flavors and sharing his food with his family and friends bring him joy. Something you may not know - Joby dislikes dirty socks. "I can't wear dirty socks." Joby shared what most parents have found to be true - that being a parent is his greatest fitness accomplishment. "Learning how to stay in shape, how to balance my limited time with my other responsibilities of work and kids is hard. Doing that successfully is awesome."
Joby offers private lessons for kids and adults at our bouldering gym. Lessons are $25 per hour. Contact him directly to schedule - 505-500-5357.
